Delivery workers protest against the “Vest Law” in Puebla

This Tuesday, dozens of motorcyclists who work as delivery drivers for digital platforms gathered in the Plaza Torrecillas parking lot to protest the recent amendments to the Puebla State Mobility and Road Safety Law, popularly known as the “Vest Law” or “Helmet Law.”

Those dissidents believe these reforms impose measures that hinder their daily activities, such as the mandatory wearing of labeled vests with visible license plates, the use of helmets with identification, and harsher penalties for noncompliance.

They maintain they are not against safety, but denounce that the new provisions were not agreed upon with the union, which creates uncertainty and could result in arbitrary fines or arrests.

Holding signs and helmets, the delivery drivers demanded a roundtable discussion with state authorities and legislators to review the law and establish fairer and clearer rules that do not criminalize their work.

So far, the authorities have not issued an official statement on this protest. However, the protesters announced they will continue their demonstrations until they are heard and considered in decisions that affect their way of life.
