The downpours continue to wreak havoc, and significant flooding is already being reported on Hermanos Serdán Boulevard in Puebla. Six neighborhoods in the capital city are said to be the hardest hit this rainy season.
The water hasn’t stopped since yesterday, with flooding already reported in the capital and 250 families cut off from communication in the north due to the overflowing Pantepec River.
Residents of Topacio Street and Coral Street in the Villa Posadas neighborhood report flooding in their homes and are requesting urgent assistance. Meanwhile, in the Aquiles Serdán neighborhood, the rains continue to cause water accumulation on 55 Norte and 14 Poniente streets. Work continues to drain and prevent further flooding.
Streets and avenues such as Forjadores, Carmelitas, and Esteban de Antuñano are submerged with up to 70 cm of water. Cars are stranded, passengers rescued, and residential areas are at risk from landslides. Flooding has also been reported on the Puebla-Tehuacán federal highway, near the Iron Training gym.
Other reports on social media came from people who had come to pay their electricity bill in the Amalucan Junction area, where the CFE offices are located.
Meanwhile, Puebla Civil Protection and Firefighters are activating protocols, setting up shelters, and accelerating cleanup in vulnerable areas.
Recommendations for Severe Weather
If you detect the presence of a thunderstorm, move to a safe place such as a dry room. Avoid being under trees, on sports fields, near bodies of water, or in swimming pools, as these types of places are often prone to lightning strikes.
If the rains continue continuously for several days, this will be a significant factor in the risk of river or flash flooding. In this circumstance, you should NEVER cross a flooded street, not even on foot, much less by car. Try NOT to throw garbage and waste in streets or manholes, as this is often a contributing factor to severe flooding in streets and avenues.
