Puebla: Among the states with the highest number of cases of abuse—the majority involving women.

By the first half of May, a total of 138 people had received treatment in emergency rooms in Puebla for various types of abuse—a figure that placed the state among the six with the highest number of recorded cases nationwide during that period.

According to data from the federal Ministry of Health’s dynamic data cubes, between January and the first few days of May, an average of one hospital admission per day was recorded in the state.

During this period, the most recurrent type of violence was sexual abuse, accounting for 111 cases—or 80.4 percent—of the total. This was followed by physical abuse with 20 recorded instances, “abuse syndrome” with five cases, as well as one case of neglect and another of psychological abuse.

Youth and Adolescents: The Most Affected

Adolescents and young adults were the groups most affected; the 15-to-19 age range accounted for 42 victims, equivalent to 30 percent of the state’s total.

They were followed by individuals aged 20 to 24, with 26 cases, while the 10-to-14 age group accumulated 25 cases.

Furthermore, of the 138 people treated, 127 were women and only 11 were men, meaning that more than nine out of every 10 victims were female.

March: The Month with the Most Recorded Cases

Broken down by month, the cases were distributed as follows:

January: 31
February: 30
March: 37
April: 33
May: 7
According to the dynamic data cubes, the majority of admissions were classified as “unqualified emergencies”—totaling 107 cases—compared to 31 cases classified as “qualified emergencies.”

Although the majority of victims were able to return home after receiving medical attention, 21 people required hospitalization due to the severity of their injuries or physical trauma—a figure equivalent to 15 percent of the total. In other cases, six patients were referred to outpatient services, three were transferred to another medical facility, and three others chose to leave of their own accord.

Nationwide, the Ministry of Health reported that 2,486 people received emergency care for issues related to abuse between January and the first half of May.

The states with the highest number of cases were:

Mexico: 348
Veracruz: 284
Chiapas: 207
Querétaro: 159
Guanajuato: 152
Puebla: 138
This means that Puebla accounted for approximately 5.5 percent of all cases recorded in the country during that period. (MCJ)
