Puebla is the fourth state with the highest number of museum visits, but attendance grew by only 0.1%.

Puebla accounted for 4.04% of museum visits nationwide, ranking fourth nationally with 2.1 million visitors.

The state of Puebla has solidified its position as the fourth-largest contributor to the flow of visitors across museums in the Mexican Republic.

According to metrics from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), museum venues in Puebla attracted 2,108,809 visitors, representing 4.04 percent of the 52,206,907 total national records. With this figure, the state ranked just behind Mexico City, Nuevo León, and Guanajuato.

Despite this standing within the national landscape, the state’s internal activity reported a slowdown in its growth rate.

INEGI data indicates that the volume of visitors within the state—as measured by continuous monitoring indicators—rose from 15,203 to 15,225 people. This represented a marginal increase of just 0.1 percent, equivalent to 22 additional visitors.

Puebla’s cultural infrastructure comprises 60 museums—a figure that ties with Guanajuato’s offerings and places the state among the regions with the highest number of such venues in the country, surpassed only by Mexico City (166), the State of Mexico (78), and Jalisco (71).

However, when comparing visitor attraction efficiency, Nuevo León outperformed Puebla, drawing 4.7 million people across a smaller network of 47 sites; meanwhile, Guanajuato reached 2.4 million attendees with the exact same number of museum venues as Puebla.

Nationwide, the combined visitor turnout across the country’s 1,025 museums reached 52.2 million people during the period, with Mexico City accounting for 49.43 percent of the national total, recording 25.8 million visits. As for the themes chosen by users, national statistics indicate that History accounted for 44.4%, followed by Art at 23.5% and Archaeology at 20%.
