Puebla government to repair landslide in Metropolitan Park

The Puebla government will begin reconstruction of the collapsed section of the bike path in San Andrés Cholula using community work programs and machinery modules.

The Puebla government will begin reconstruction of the collapsed section of the bike path in the Metropolitan Park and the Atoyac River Walk in San Andrés Cholula, following a landslide caused by heavy rains. The work will be carried out through the Community Works program and with the support of machinery modules, with the goal of restoring safety for those who use this recreational space.

Park technical staff explained that the continuous rains caused siltation and the overflowing of a culvert located at the entrance to the walkway, resulting in the collapse of a 12-meter section of the bike path, approximately four meters deep.

Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier toured the area accompanied by the Secretary of Infrastructure, José Manuel Contreras de los Santos, and the Executive Director of Conventions and Parks, Michelle Talavera Herrera. He instructed them to expedite the work through the Community Works program and the Machinery Modules, ensuring quality workmanship and prompt service for the benefit of those who visit the park daily for recreational and sporting activities and to walk their pets.

Secretary of Infrastructure José Manuel Contreras de los Santos reported that department personnel have already assessed the damage and that topographic surveys and the removal of debris will begin this Monday, July 13, using the Machinery Modules, in coordination with the agency’s maintenance department.

He also urged the public to respect the cordoned-off area, as personnel and machinery will be carrying out operations. She detailed that the agency will construct two prefabricated culverts, a gabion wall to stabilize the terrain, and replace the tartan track on a cement base with a rubber finish.

For her part, the executive director of Conventions and Parks, Michelle Talavera Herrera, reported that citizen participation committees will be formed and the corresponding assemblies will be held to promote the intervention in the affected section.

Users of the Metropolitan Park, such as Rodolfo Romero, acknowledged the start of the reconstruction work and considered it important that the rest of the park also receive maintenance. Similarly, Alma Espinoza noted that the space had not been rehabilitated in recent years and considered the state government’s intervention a positive step.

With these actions, the state government seeks to promptly address the damage caused by the rains and rehabilitate the space so that the people of Puebla can use it again safely.
