Mexico-Puebla highway blocked due to lack of support after floods

The Mexico-Puebla highway was blocked by residents of the México 83 neighborhood to demand assistance from authorities following the recent rains and flooding in the city of Puebla.

On Saturday afternoon, traffic was stopped in both directions on the aforementioned highway near Villa Frontera.

Forensic personnel who went to the search site this weekend completed the bagging or packaging of the bodies found. The residents’ protests arose after the afternoon rains caused flooding that reached up to 1.6 meters (5 feet) deep, due to the accumulation of water in the El Santuario ravine.

For this reason, the protesters decided to block traffic on one of the main highways in the state of Puebla, causing traffic chaos in the area due to the large number of motorists who were trapped.

Various reports indicate that the residents’ main demand is for authorities to take the necessary actions to prevent further flooding.

They are also demanding support for homes damaged by rising water levels.

Society has criticized the protesters, pointing out that blocking the road is also causing problems for people.

It was also noted that some stranded motorists had to resort to alternative routes, such as crossing a ravine and using dirt roads, to leave the area.

To date, neither municipal nor state authorities have issued a statement regarding the protest and the demands made by the protesters.
