Humanitarian euthanasia proposed for terminally ill patients in Puebla

Lawmakers from the Morena, Green Party, and Citizens’ Movement parties proposed humane euthanasia to prevent the suffering of people with terminal illnesses, whose lives are artificially prolonged, thus increasing their pain.

During the session of the Permanent Commission, Roberto Zataráin Leal presented the initiative, which proposes reforming, adding to, and repealing various provisions of the Law on Advance Directives for the State of Puebla.

With the support of Green Party Representative Norma Pimentel and representatives from Citizens’ Movement, the legislator lamented that compassion is sometimes shown to animals when they are suffering, but the same principle is not applied to people, leading to the prolongation of their lives in painful conditions.

He stated that Puebla should be an example of respecting the wishes of individuals to end their suffering and allow advance directives regarding end-of-life care.

In the same session, Representative Azucena Rosas Tapia presented a motion urging the implementation of the Backpack Operation in schools with the participation of parents and teachers, respecting students’ human rights.

Meanwhile, the General Council of the State Electoral Institute formally notified the Board of Directors of the Local Congress of the appointment of Christian Mariana Ceballos Garduño as interim president of the body, following the vacancy created by the appointment of Blanca Yassahara Cruz García as a councilor of the National Electoral Institute.
