Puebla’s municipal treasurer, Armando Morales Aparicio, said that by paying the outstanding amount, a guarantee fund for 31 million pesos will be recovered, which will be managed before the banking institution that gave the loan for 480 million pesos in 2005, so it will favor the local economy.
Puebla, Pue. (February 12, 2021).- The Puebla City Council, which had a historical debt of 318 million pesos, which was paid in the current administration that entered in October 2018, determined to pay the remaining 41 million this month in order to redirect resources to social programs and economic reactivation.
The municipal treasurer, Armando Morales Aparicio, said that at the beginning of the current administration, “Angelopolis” (as the city of Puebla is known), was in 35th place nationwide in debt, while by 2020 it went to 84th place, according to the Center for Public Finance Studies of the Chamber of Deputies.
Morales Aparicio stated that by paying the outstanding amount, a guarantee fund for 31 million pesos will be recovered, which will be managed before the banking institution that gave the loan for 480 million pesos in 2005, therefore, it will favor the municipal coffers.
“The resources will be used to attend to the needs of the citizens since the budget has been programmed until October, which will be when the current municipal government ends its functions,” he explained.
Mayor Claudia Rivera Vivanco assured that the indebtedness was the result of “the corruption of the past regime” and it is a payment that has been “dragged” by the people of Puebla.
With the decision to pay off the debt, she stressed, “a 16-year burden” will be settled, which was until 2023. Likewise, with the savings in payments, it will be possible to redirect resources to the seven axes of economic reactivation in our state.
