Public safety in Puebla’s transport sector has once again drawn sharp focus following recent statistics released by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE). Between January and July 2026, robberies targeting individual public transportation—covering both traditional taxis and app-based ride-sharing services—rose by 7.9% compared to the same period in 2025. Authorities recorded 68 cases during the first seven months of the year, contrasting with the 63 incidents reported during the previous year.
More concerning than the overall numerical rise is the distinct shift toward aggression during these offenses. Incidents involving physical force or threats increased from 43 to 52 cases, marking a 20.9% jump in violent encounters. In contrast, non-violent robberies experienced a minor decline, dropping from 20 to 16 cases.
This upward trend interrupts a brief period of improvement. Following a peak of 80 reported robberies in 2023, safety indicators had steadily improved through 2024 and 2025. Although current numbers remain below those historical highs, the growing proportion of armed or violent confrontations underscores the mounting risks faced by both drivers and passengers. Industry representatives and security analysts continue to call for heightened protective measures, better monitoring technologies, and enhanced enforcement to safeguard daily commuters and transport workers across the metropolitan area.
