Residents of the community of San José Cuyachapa, in the municipality of Esperanza, threatened to block the Puebla-Orizaba highway, on the border between Esperanza and Maltrata, Veracruz, following a joint operation by federal, state, and ministerial authorities to search for stolen cargo.
According to unofficial reports, the security operation, comprised of federal, state, and ministerial authorities, aimed to locate transport vehicles and merchandise that were allegedly stolen.
Preliminary reports indicate that the operation began deploying early Saturday morning along the Puebla-Veracruz corridor, considered one of the most critical areas in the country for cargo truck theft.
Drivers and truckers traveling on the Puebla-Orizaba highway have reported that groups of residents remain stationed near the highway with tires and flammable materials, threatening to block traffic in both directions.
According to citizen reports, police operations are focused on a property in San José Cuyachapa, where it is suspected that heavy vehicles and auto parts are being illegally stored.
As of Saturday afternoon, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding these events, whether there were any arrests, or the type of merchandise seized. More details are expected in the coming hours.
