An armed attack left two men and a woman injured near the Morelos Market in the city of Puebla. One of them is Leobardo, 42, with an ankle wound, and Ana Karen, 31, with a gunshot wound to her right leg.
The victims were taken to a hospital, and after a police deployment, authorities arrested two suspects.
The attack occurred around noon this Monday on 42nd North Street, in front of the El Campanario shopping center, a few meters from the market.
Citizens called emergency services, reporting that several people had been shot.
Apparently, armed men on motorcycles intercepted the victims, shot them multiple times, and then fled.
Municipal and State Police officers, as well as paramedics from Civil Protection and SUMA (Emergency Medical Services), were immediately mobilized. Members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard also responded.
Emergency medical technicians assessed and treated the two injured men and the woman at the Morelos Market, subsequently transporting them to a hospital.
Authorities launched an operation and arrested at least two suspects. It was also reported that vehicles were seized.
Agents from the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived to process the scene and collect evidence.
The agents also searched for and located security cameras in the area to clarify what happened and identify the assailants.
In a statement, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) confirmed the arrest of two suspected perpetrators. It also reported that “the area was secured and order was restored.”
The corresponding investigations are already underway, led by the ministerial authorities of the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), to clarify the facts. It was also confirmed that the injured remain hospitalized under specialized medical care.
The State Public Security Secretariat added that 25 people identified as generating violence in the Morelos Market area have been arrested.
