Puebla celebrates its anniversary with a massive Danzón dance

This Sunday, the Zócalo in Puebla City was filled with music and dance as dozens of couples participated in a massive danzón demonstration, part of the celebrations for the 495th anniversary of the founding of Puebla.

On 3 Oriente Street, next to the Puebla Cathedral, the Puebla City Council’s Municipal Symphonic Band performed various pieces, while the dancers, dressed in white dresses and guayaberas, followed the choreography.

Families gathered in the city’s main square to enjoy the performance, which began shortly after 10:00 a.m. and concluded with applause for the participants and the musicians invited by the Puebla Municipal Institute of Art and Culture (IMACP).

This Sunday’s mass dance performance in the Zócalo was part of the Origen Festival, which began on April 16 and concluded this Sunday with the danzón performance, a children’s concert, and a dance event at Paseo Bravo.

Starting at 3:00 p.m., the city government announced a parade from the El Gallito clock to the Zócalo, along Reforma-Juan de Palafox y Mendoza avenue, followed by a folk dance performance at 4:00 p.m.

The festival will conclude at the Teatro de la Ciudad at 5:30 p.m. with a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Faculty of Arts of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP).

Due to the festival activities, the municipal traffic police announced road closures this Sunday until 4:00 p.m. There will be no vehicular access from 13th South Street and Reforma Avenue, heading towards the Zócalo. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.

There will also be no traffic on 2nd South Street at the intersection with Juan de Palafox y Mendoza Avenue, as well as on 3rd East Street heading towards the city center.
