Mariachi outfits spark gunfire at Puebla market; attack leaves wounded and one kidnapped

Tragedy at the Morelos Market in Puebla. On the morning of Sunday, April 19, armed criminals, allegedly dressed as mariachis and wearing hoods, carried out a violent shootout that left two wounded and one man kidnapped.

The sound of gunfire shattered the routine in a matter of seconds; those who were shopping or working inside the market barely had time to react before seeking refuge.

According to initial reports, the assailants arrived in a van and went directly to a parked vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Chevy with Mexico City license plates; without saying a word, they opened fire on the men inside.

The scene was chaotic; some thought it was fireworks, but it only took a few moments to understand what was happening, as vendors lowered metal shutters and customers threw themselves to the ground trying to protect themselves.

One of the details that drew the most attention was the alleged clothing of the attackers; Witnesses reported that the men were dressed in mariachi outfits and had their faces covered, which made identification difficult.

After the attack, the assailants took one of the victims away in the same pickup truck; the vehicle, according to reports, had a mariachi-related sign, reinforcing the hypothesis that the entire incident was planned.

Hours later, around noon, the man who had been kidnapped returned to the market on his own; he arrived wounded and asked for help, confirming that he had either escaped or been released.

Civil Protection paramedics treated the three men at the scene; two of them had serious injuries and were immediately taken to a hospital, while the area remained under guard.

Operation in Puebla and leads that open new lines of inquiry

Security forces deployed an operation in Puebla to locate those responsible; the pickup truck used in the shootout was later found, apparently abandoned in another part of the city.
