The Huejotzingo Carnival 2026 is about to begin, and if you have not yet lived this great experience of seeing the colorful costumes, the masks, hearing and smelling the gunpowder, and witnessing the tradition of this festival up close, here we tell you all the details about when it will be.

This is one of the most important festivals in Puebla. Thanks to its great tradition and antiquity, it was declared Cultural Heritage of the State of Puebla in 1997.

The Huejotzingo Carnival is an explosion of tradition and passion. For four days, the streets are filled with gunpowder, vibrant rhythms, and the energy of thousands of dancers, creating a unique atmosphere where each sound envelops the visitor in a party that beats with the soul of Huejotzingo.

The battalions are divided into sappers, mountain Indians, zacapoaxtlas, Turks and Zouaves, and the comparsas are Huexotzincatl, Casamiento Indígena, and Negritos. Each of these characters represents a particular historical significance.

Their colorful costumes, worn with respect and pride by the dancers, tell stories that fill every moment of the festivity with tradition and emotion.

When does the Huejotzingo Carnival 2026 start?

The Huejotzingo Carnival 2026 will be held from February 14 to 17. During those days, the community is transformed, and the streets become the main stage.

Three representations are held during the carnival: the first marriage between indigenous people of New Spain under the Catholic rite, the theft of the Corregidor’s daughter by the bandit Agustín Lorenzo, and the Battle of May 5, 1862.

The head of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of the state of Puebla, Francisco Sánchez González, reported that during the carnival in the municipality of Huejotzingo, a special operation will be deployed to safeguard locals, participants, and tourists.

There will be a total of 300 elements of the Secretariat of the Navy, Ministry of National Defense, National Guard, State Police, Municipal Police, Civil Protection, and paramedics who, jointly, will be installed in different parts of this municipality.

“From February 14 to 17, we will launch a special operation within the framework of the Huejotzingo carnival, one of the largest and most anticipated festivities in the state. As part of the devices, more than 300 elements of the Secretariat of the Navy, National Defense, State Police, Municipal Police, Civil Protection, and paramedics will be deployed,” said the official.
