Puebla will implement mandatory driver’s license exams starting August 25.

Starting August 25, the practical exam will be mandatory in the state of Puebla for all individuals wishing to renew or apply for a new driver’s license for private vehicles, the Ministry of Mobility and Transportation (SMT) announced.

Mandatory exam to obtain a license in Puebla

During a press conference led by Governor Alejandro Armenta, it was detailed that 30 driving simulators are currently distributed in different modules and Comprehensive Service Centers. The familiarization and pilot testing period will begin on August 11, but will not be decisive at this stage. The practical exams will not be required to obtain the document until August 25.

The head of the Puebla SMT, Silvia Tanús, assured that the equipment is in the calibration and programming process and emphasized that this new scheme aims to ensure that drivers have real-world skills to drive safely.

For his part, Governor Armenta called on municipal leaders not to get involved in the transportation business, noting that work is underway to bring order and combat the proliferation of illegal vehicles. “The party’s over,” he declared.

Furthermore, during the presentation of the 2025 Vehicle Review, it was reported that more than 5,000 units have already been inspected in seven municipalities during the first month of the program. The goal is to complete the entire registry review by November.

It was also announced that, as part of the Helmet Program for motorcycle users, discussions will begin with the Ministry of Public Security to define the mandatory badge, which would identify the owner and driver of each motorcycle.
