Puebla’s community tourism model triumphs at the 2025 Food and Travel Reader Awards

The state of Puebla has been awarded Best Community-Based Tourism Destination at the 2025 Food and Travel Reader Awards, a recognition that highlights the authentic experiences it offers visitors in its communities.

According to the Secretary of Tourism Development, this award recognizes the community-based tourism model promoted by the Government of Puebla, which allows tourists to experience firsthand the traditions and ways of life of the communities, generating a positive impact on the local economy and strengthening social participation.

This model has been key to Puebla standing out as a tourist destination where visitors not only learn about the local culture but also interact directly with the communities, benefiting the economy and well-being of their inhabitants.

Representing the Secretary of Tourism Development, Carla López-Malo, the Director General of Community-Based Tourism, Marlet Pérez Blancas, participated in the award ceremony, where she emphasized the commitment of the Government of Puebla to promoting community-based tourism. This approach aligns with a humanistic vision that promotes inclusion and sustainability, as promoted by the federal government.

Puebla has successfully consolidated a tourism offering that not only connects visitors with local culture and traditions but also promotes responsible tourism that directly benefits the population, improving the social and economic dynamics of the communities involved.

Community-based tourism in Puebla has been designed so that communities are the primary beneficiaries of tourism. This model fosters the active participation of residents in the management and development of tourism activities, ensuring that the benefits reach them directly.

In this way, Puebla not only promotes tourism but does so in a way that contributes to sustainability and improves the quality of life of its inhabitants.

Through this model, the state offers tourists a unique experience based on direct contact with the communities, their traditions, and their ways of life. This generates a type of tourism that is authentic, educational, and helps preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the local communities.
