The pharmaceutical industry in Puebla is positioning itself to curb dependence on foreign sources.

The state of Puebla is emerging as a powerhouse in the pharmaceutical industry at the Development Hub for Well-being, located in the municipality of San José Chiapa, as part of Mexico’s efforts to reduce its dependence on imports.

This was announced by the head of the Federal Ministry of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, following commitments secured by the Puebla government from companies to occupy 90 percent of the land currently designated for this hub.

In an interview with the media, he explained that the country will begin producing many products that were previously sourced from other parts of the world, thus fulfilling the state’s role as a link to the industry.

Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier stated that the Secretary acted as an intermediary to secure Puebla’s first Development Hub, where factories are already under construction and the remaining companies are finalizing their operations.

He indicated that a final phase, corresponding to the Downtown Corridor, is still pending, in which the Mexican Employers’ Confederation (Coparmex) and the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) are invited to participate so that this part relates to services.

He also reported that the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) and the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi) have agreed to build houses in this area.

The State Secretary of Economy and Labor, Víctor Gabriel Chedraui, revealed that more than 100 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises are already slated to relocate to what was formerly known as Ciudad Modelo (Model City).
