The Radical Feminist Front of Puebla announced that it will not be organizing any activities this year to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8th.
In a statement released on social media, the feminist collective indicated that, “with deep sorrow and sadness,” it made the decision not to hold either the traditional market or the march that it had organized in previous years, due to safety and health concerns for its members.
“This March 8th, we will not be organizing a market or a march,” they stated in the post, in which they also expressed their regret at not being in the streets with other collectives and women who joined their protests and demonstrations each year.
Despite their absence from organizing mobilizations, the Radical Feminist Front of Puebla called for the continuation of the struggle from different spaces, urging people to take to the streets, reclaim public spaces, denounce the violence that women experience, and support others in their processes of resistance and defense of their rights.
The announcement comes in the context of the various events held each year in Puebla to commemorate March 8th and demand justice, security and an end to gender violence.
