With a commitment to promoting sports and rebuilding the social fabric of the state, Governor Alejandro Armenta enthusiastically gave the starting signal to the competitors of the 2025 Puebla Marathon, a race that brought together more than 20,000 runners of national and international caliber.
Before the runners set off, the governor recognized the athletes and emphasized that they are a source of pride for all the people of Puebla. He reiterated that this sector is a state policy and a priority, in accordance with the policy of promoting health through sports, a policy championed by the government led by Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.
As a demonstration of the support for physical activity, high-performance sports, and family togetherness, at 6:25 a.m., in a truly sporting and family-friendly atmosphere, Governor Alejandro Armenta, accompanied by the Secretary of Sports and Youth, Gaby “La Bonita” Sánchez, and members of the state cabinet, gave the starting signal to the competitors in their different categories.
In her message, the Secretary of Sports and Youth, Gaby “La Bonita” Sánchez, celebrated the enthusiasm and participation of thousands of runners. She emphasized that this year’s edition saw the return of the 5K and 10K categories, with the goal of making the 2025 Puebla Marathon a more inclusive, massive, and family-friendly event.
Katia García Barrios, originally from Mexico City, has been running marathons for 20 years and this is her second time participating in the Puebla race. Last year she ran the Half Marathon, and this time she opted for the 42K. She affirmed that staying healthy is essential. “It’s important to promote sports for physical and mental health,” Katia stated, adding that the event organization is excellent and that more marathoners join each year.
Carlos Rivera ran the 42K and considered the Marathon a great challenge. He also acknowledged the support the state government provides to all sports disciplines. The athlete accompanied Aurelio Rivas, a visually impaired man from the State of Mexico, during the race. Rivas commented that this was his first time running in Puebla and encouraged more people to exercise.
Fidel Aguilar, an athlete with a physical disability, participated in the 2025 Puebla Marathon and expressed his gratitude to the State Government for promoting inclusive sports and creating spaces where everyone can compete. He acknowledged that these types of events strengthen his preparation for international competitions, such as the one he will soon face in Los Angeles. He highlighted the marathon as a great experience that reflects the government’s commitment to inclusion and high performance.
With this edition, Puebla consolidates its position as a host city for high-profile national and international sporting events, promoting not only local athletic talent and family activities, but also tourism and physical activity.
