The Day of the Dead is approaching, and various celebrations are already being prepared in Puebla to pay tribute to those who have passed away. One of the most anticipated this year is “Catrinerías” at the Exhacienda de Chautla, a festival that combines culture, legends, traditional food, and art in one of Mexico’s most photogenic settings.
When will “Catrinerías” be held at the Exhacienda de Chautla?
The historic venue, located a few kilometers from Puebla’s capital, will open its doors to celebrate “Catrinerías” from October 10 to November 2, 2025, with activities dedicated to keeping the Day of the Dead tradition alive.
Puebla State Conventions and Parks, this event seeks to promote Mexican customs through immersive experiences ranging from live narrated legends to monumental offerings that pay tribute to the deceased with flowers, candles, and papel picado.
What will “Catrinerías” offer at the Chautla Exhacienda?
During your visit to “Catrinerías,” you can enjoy a wide variety of activities for the whole family:
Immersive legends, where traditional Day of the Dead characters come to life.
Monumental offerings with designs inspired by different regions of the country.
A Catrina contest, ideal for showing off your best traditional attire.
Illuminated trajineras will travel around the exhacienda’s lakes, creating a magical atmosphere.
A Wall of Memories, where attendees can leave messages dedicated to their loved ones.
A House of Terror, perfect for lovers of suspense.
In addition, there will be a food court with typical Puebla snacks, artisanal “pan de muerto” (bread of the dead), hot chocolate, and seasonal beverages, as well as handicraft sales, live music, and cultural presentations.
How to get to the Chautla Exhacienda
The Chautla Exhacienda is located about 50 kilometers from the city of Puebla and approximately two hours from Mexico City. If you’re traveling by car, simply take the Mexico–Puebla Highway toward San Martín Texmelucan and follow the signs to San Lucas El Grande.
The Chautla Exhacienda is an ideal destination to enjoy the flavors of the season: tamales, pumpkin in tacha sauce, mole poblano, and, of course, the traditional bread of the dead with chocolate.
