Profeco closes 8 gas stations in Puebla for selling incomplete liters and irregularities

In Puebla, eight gas stations were issued temporary closure seals, while 59 measuring instruments were seized for various irregularities, according to the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco).

As part of the National Strategy to Promote Gasoline Price Stabilization, Profeco and the Agency for Safety, Energy, and Environment (ASEA) carried out inter-institutional operations in six states, including Puebla, last month to inspect gas stations.

These actions aim to verify that full liters are sold, that prices are respected, and that environmental and operational safety standards are met at gas stations.

Of the states inspected, Puebla had the highest number of immobilized measuring instruments, with 59. Querétaro had 32, Chiapas 41, Hidalgo 9, the State of Mexico 34, and Morelos 50.

The most common violations found during inspections at all stations were listed below:

Failure to sell full liters of gasoline
Discrepancies in electronic records
Failure to comply with the test for retaining information on the screen for 80 seconds after losing power

The sale of incomplete liters is a crime, and Profeco filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) against one service station in Puebla, three in the State of Mexico, two in Querétaro, one in Chiapas, and three in Morelos.

In turn, ASEA’s responsibilities include verifying that the inspected facilities have a valid Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). If this is not the case, the gas stations have been temporarily closed.

In this regard, in Puebla, the eight service stations inspected were issued temporary closure seals; in Querétaro, eight inspection visits resulted in five closures, two inspection refusals, and one facility being out of service.

Together, ASEA and Profeco have inspected 39 service stations in six states, of which 31 were closed for violating environmental regulations.
