Puebla at the forefront of protection and justice for women with 27 shelters

“Perhaps this is the State with a concrete project for greater spaces of attention for women, that is, 27 houses like these, without a doubt, will save and transform the lives of women and this is what this commitment is about,” said the Secretary of Women of the Federal Government, Citlalli Hernández, during the inauguration of the first Carmen Serdán House in the capital.

The federal official added that it is a comprehensive project that replicates some of the actions that the president, as Head of Government, carried out in Mexico City and that “puts forward the commitment that we notice that the government of Puebla has with women.”

The Secretary of Women, Citlalli Hernández Mora, insisted that the cultural change that Mexico requires in terms of equality must also impact the administration of justice. “In many parts of the country, where there is a great pending issue with women, it is in the Judicial Branch,” she said.

In this sense, Citlalli Hernández celebrated that the Serdán Houses are a comprehensive project that addresses violence from a legal perspective and will also promote women’s autonomy. “It is not only about saving women’s lives, but about transforming them.”

“Spaces like these are of profound relevance because they are not only spaces to address violence, but are accompanied by comprehensive actions that demonstrate the capacity of collaboration of the authorities,” highlighted the head of the Women’s Secretariat of the government of President Claudia Sheinabum.

The governor of the State, Alejandro Armenta, expressed that the important thing about the Carmen Serdán Houses, 27 during his first year of government, is that it can be prevented. “It hurts us, it hurts us, when there is a femicide. And there is no omission, there is no indifference, there is forcefulness, led by Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum.”

He reaffirmed that the women’s protection model called Casas Carmen Serdán Por Amor a Puebla, unites all institutions to prevent violence and feminicides. “They are not only spaces of love, they are spaces to do justice.”

Alejandro Armenta commented that as president, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum has made a very important difference in the way of governing, where Mexican humanism is the main characteristic and has managed to get the entire public administration, state and municipal governments to work on that path.

“Citlalli is an extraordinary secretary, she is a woman that I met when I arrived at Morena and in the Senate, Citlalli has always been in favor of the defense of women, of ecosystems and has always presented initiatives in favor of families. Puebla will translate with strict adherence to the communication of our president, all the strategies in favor of the defense of women and in the DIF my wife helps me extraordinarily in that fight,” said Alejandro Armenta.

In her speech, the Attorney General of the State, Idamis Pastor considered that the Carmen Serdán House represents a refuge for all those women, girls and boys who require it, not only when they have already been victims of some illicit act, but to prevent it.

The municipal president of Puebla, José Chedraui, affirmed that the Carmen Serdán House in the capital is a clear example of coordination between the different levels of government. “It is possible thanks to the teamwork of the federal government, the state government, the State Attorney General’s Office and the Puebla City Council, we recognize the important legacy of Carmen Serdán who together with other revolutionary women from Puebla dedicated her life to fighting for the political and social rights of Mexicans.

The event was attended by the president of the Board of Trustees of the State DIF System, Ceci Arellano; the president of the State Congress, Laura Artemisa García; the Secretary of the Interior, Samuel Aguilar Pala; the president of the State Superior Court of Justice, María Belinda Aguilar Díaz; the General Coordinator of Linkage and Monitoring of the Secretariat for Women of the Federal Government, Viridiana Hernández Rivera; the Secretary of Substantive Equality, Virginia González Melgarejo; the Secretary of Public Security, Vice Admiral Francisco Sánchez; the Secretary of Welfare, Javier Aquino Limón and the representative of the Serdán Family, Máximo Serdán, among others.
