A total traffic closure that lasted just over six hours left hundreds of motorists stranded traveling on the Mexico-Puebla highway heading to Mexico City during the night and early morning of this Friday.
According to drivers traveling in the direction of the capital of the country, around 11:00 p.m. the closure was carried out from the La Concordia Bridge, through which the highway connects with the Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza and Calzada Ermita Iztapalapa.
According to information provided by the authorities that guarded the area, said closure to traffic was due to the placement of whales in the elevated section that will connect the Santa Martha terminal with the section that includes the Mexico-Puebla on the Chalco-Santa Martha Trolleybus route.
Hundreds of motorists showed their annoyance, since the authorities did not give advance notice of this closure, as well as two others that they carried out during the week, so their travel times were severely affected.
‘We understand that they have to close, but they don’t give any notice and the whole track ends up becoming a parking lot because no one moves forward, neither to one side nor the other. We have to wait for hours to be able to move freely,’ said Rosalio, a driver on the app.
On the occasion of the 114th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, it was reported that the train service will also have a modification, so users are asked to take precautions.
Dozens of motorists declared that they were “parked” on the highway for several hours, which caused a kilometer-long line of vehicles coming from municipalities such as Ixtapaluca, Chalco and Valle de Chalco. Drivers even claim that several truckers who were driving on the track took advantage of the closure to spend the night there.
The closure was lifted at around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, however, according to what some workers told motorists, the intermittent blockades will continue for the next few days. However, they do not know which days specifically the road will be closed, so they have recommended that they stay tuned for any information issued by the authorities.
