Only eight people a day use the bicycle parking lot at the Margaritas station on the RUTA line. In previous months, the flow of people was ten to twelve daily users, said the undersecretary of mobility of the municipality of Puebla, Norman Campos Velázquez.
Campos Velázquez revealed that the building was delivered in poor condition, despite the fact that it was inaugurated at the beginning of this year, so they are currently carrying out maintenance actions on the facilities.
“First of all, what we are doing is seeing what can be done to get it working; this space was abandoned, first of all, the grass is very long, there are already some faults in the facilities, so we are checking because the building is new,” he added.
He commented that for the moment they have already asked the Public Services area to intervene in the place, as well as to see what condition the children’s games and the space for pets are in, so that, if repairs have to be made, they are carried out.
The official mentioned that the site does have an influx of people, but not cyclists, but people who come with children and pets, so they will try to exploit this to encourage more people to use it.
Regarding the six-peso fee for bicycle parking, the undersecretary said that although it is already included in the Income Law for next year, he stressed that they are still analyzing the possibility of keeping it free.
He specified that the fee for the use of the property would be to maintain the facilities, however, the previous government did not do so in order to motivate people to use it by taking charge of the maintenance with the agency’s money.
In this regard, he commented that they will present to President José Chedraui Budib the diagnosis on the viability of keeping the use of the bicycle parking free and it will be he who decides whether the fee is applied or not.
