Tourism fell by 12% during the month of July in Puebla de Sanabria compared to the average of previous campaigns. This has been announced by the municipal office itself, which has also made an analysis of the “habits and behaviours” of travellers who reach this reference municipality within the north-west axis of Spain.
According to the analysis of the Sanabria office, the most notable thing compared to other campaigns is the minimum time with which the reservation of tourist accommodation services is made; “in some cases the advance notice has been cancelled and the decision is made on the same day, in transit or at the place of travel.” Also striking is the rise in the accommodation option of tourist apartments compared to the traditional option of fully rented rural houses, cabins or motorhomes that give greater independence to the tourist.
Beyond that, the Sanabria region remains a key stop in the inland tourism holiday destination of the north-west of the country. However, the stay, which used to be extended during this holiday period, is also experiencing a change in trend. The 2-4 day option rises to 56%, while a one-week stay accounts for 8%.
As for origin, national tourism dominates at this time with 97% of the percentage computed, and in the last weeks of July there has been a rise in source places that have to do with the search for “climate refuges”. Thus, the Tourist Office has registered 3% of the total number of travellers from Murcia, 7% from the Valencian Community, 11% from Andalusia and 12% from Castilla-La Mancha, while island tourists also appear in the records
Also, as usual in the summer, families are the predominant target public (45% of the total) and the choice of private car as a means of transport is also common (67% of the total). The young public also increases in these months “as a visitor eager for cultural and scenic destinations in a significant percentage (16%)”.
The monuments
As for the monuments visited, the data for July would be the following: Castle (6,638), Tourist Office (2,680) Church of Our Lady of Azogue (5,388), Museum of Giants and Bigheads (3,192), Mycological School of Ungilde (103), Hermitage of San Cayetano (4,847) and Church of San Francisco (212).
