On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Puebla City Council announced a school for children with Down syndrome, while blind people demanded safe infrastructure.
The city of Puebla has the highest concentration of people with disabilities in the state. According to the Municipal Secretary of Welfare, Carlos Gómez Tepoz, there are currently 370,000 registered people over the age of five with some form of disability in the city, while the statewide figure reaches 1,036,000.
During the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the official called for strengthening inclusion and acting with respect to guarantee more accessible environments. He emphasized that public policies should be geared toward eliminating barriers and facilitating the full participation of all people.
