Presidents of four municipalities ask the Puebla government for greater security.

The mayors of Zacapoaxtla, San Salvador El Verde, El Seco, and Tepeyahualco requested increased security from the Puebla government due to threats from criminal groups, revealed the head of the state government, Samuel Aguilar Pala.

In an interview, he detailed that four council members have requested leave to resign from their positions after being investigated for alleged ties to criminals in the municipalities of Ciudad Serdán, Ahuazotepec, Nicolás Buenos Aires, and Cuautempan.

However, there is also the case of Tlachichuca, where the official explained that in recent hours they have received requests for leave from council members, and they plan to establish a Municipal Council.

“They have requested greater security reinforcement, for example, Zacapoaxtla has requested greater security reinforcement, as have San Salvador El Seco, San Salvador El Verde, Tepeyahualco de Hidalgo, and Cuauhtémoc,” the official said.

Regarding the issue, the state governor, Alejandro Armenta Mier, said that when mayors feel unprotected, they may be tempted to give in to crime; however, he explained that if someone has outstanding legal issues, they should be investigated.

“If they are subject to blackmail or threats from criminal groups, tell us to protect them and that they are not linked to criminal groups. We have sufficient personnel to do so, so it is in their hands. When an authority no longer goes to the state or the federal government to report a threat or an attempt to implicate them, we can no longer do anything,” the governor said.
