Electric vehicles have been the focus of attention in the automotive sector worldwide for some years now. The supply of this type of car has been growing slowly but surely in our country, to the extent that there are already almost 20 models of electric cars for sale in Mexico. Here we tell you what each of them is, how much they cost and which is the cheapest.
Before you go down the list, it’s important to know that there are vendors that sell electric work vehicles, such as small cargo trucks or short passenger vans. Some examples are Jiayuan JY7222-ZQR, ByD T3, or GML GF-900ME. We do not include them because there is no website directly from the manufacturer in Mexico with official prices.
1. Renault Twizy
This small electric vehicle developed in Europe is classified as a quadricycle in some regions of the world. In Mexico, it is registered as a car and that is why we include it in this list. It uses a 20 hp electric motor, which is enough to reach a speed of up to 80 km / h. It has a range of 100 km and its price starts at 343,200 pesos.
2. JAC E Sei 1
Fitter than the Twizy, Mexico’s cheapest electric car is the JAC E Sei 1. It’s electric motor generates 67 hp and 158 lb-ft, and is powered by a 41 kWh battery. Its respectable autonomy ranges between 320 and 400 kilometers. It offers a touch screen, electrical equipment, air conditioning, a backup camera, and two airbags. Its price is 495,000 pesos.
3. Zacua MX3
This brand is of Mexican origin, with a vehicle created from components developed in different parts of the world. The MX3 – with a coupe variant called the MX2 – is a tiny 45-hp, 64-lb-ft hatchback with a small 18-kWh battery, enough to go up to 160 km and reach 85 km / h. It has a touch screen, ABS brakes, but no airbags. Its price is 599,900 pesos.
4. JAC E Sei 2
JAC is the brand with the broadest portfolio of electric vehicles in Mexico. Its proposal in the B-SUV segment is the E Sei 2, which with 123 hp, 199 lb-ft, and a 42.8 kWh battery promises to travel between 302 and 400 km per charge. Its equipment includes heated front seats, 360º camera, 8 “screen, stability control, and two airbags. Its price is 630,000 pesos.
5. Renault Kangoo ZE
Renault is one of the best-positioned brands in the sale of electric vehicles in Europe and is already showing signs of accelerating the process in America with the introduction of the Kangoo ZE, a small commercial van available in a cargo or passenger version. Its 60 hp, 165 lb-ft engine, coupled with a 33 kWh battery, is enough to go 200 km per charge. Its price starts at 699,900 pesos.
6. Chevrolet Bolt
The Bolt is today, the most interesting electric car in Mexico for its price/benefit ratio. It is not cheap, but it is the one that offers a complete level of security, a proven development for international standards, a very high degree of connectivity, and a real autonomy around 416 km. It’s 220 hp and 266 lb.-ft. the engine ensures an agile ride. Its price is 699,900 pesos.
7. Nissan LEAF
The second generation of the first mass-selling electric car has been available in Mexico for a couple of years. With 147 hp, 236 lb.-ft. and a 40 kWh battery, Nissan reports a range of 241 km per charge. All versions include an autonomous emergency brake and in most, there is also a blind spot monitor and 360º camera. Its price starts at 705,900 pesos.
8. JAC E Sei 4
The Chinese firm concentrates its offer of electric vehicles on SUV-style models. The JAC E Sei 4 corresponds to the compact segment, measuring 4.4 meters long, 147 hp, and 243 lb-ft. The battery is larger than that of its smaller brothers, and with a capacity of 50 kWh, it is capable of traveling between 400 and 500 km per charge. Its price is 750,000 pesos.
9. Tesla Model 3
Believe it or not, the Model 3 is among the 10 cheapest electric cars in Mexico. In its most accessible configuration, the compact sedan of the Californian firm promises 423 km of autonomy and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.6 seconds. Its price is 969,900 pesos.
10. BMW i3
The BMW i3 was one of the first electric vehicles for sale in Mexico, and although it has been on the market for several years now, its unique design and avant-garde selection of materials keep it as a very interesting option, with a premium seal. Its engine generates 170 hp and 184 lb-ft, and it can travel 260 km per charge thanks to a 42.2 kWh battery. Its price starts at 1,165,000 pesos.
11. Tesla Model Y
The SUV version of the Model 3 is already available in Mexico, although unlike the compact sedan, the Model Y does not employ a rear-wheel-drive configuration, but rather a twin-engine, all-wheel-drive scheme. According to the brand, it travels up to 525 km per charge and reaches 100 km / h in 5 seconds. Its price starts at 1,309,900 pesos.
12. JAC E Sunray Loading
In addition to different SUVs, the Chinese firm also markets some electric commercial vehicles in Mexico. Such is the case with the E Sunray, a 12.3 m³ cargo volume van, powered by a 161 hp engine and an impressive 553 lb-ft of torque, with a range of 430 km thanks to a 92.1 kWh battery. Its price is 1,380,000 pesos.
13. JAC E X350
The largest and most expensive electric vehicle of the Chinese firm in our country is a 174 hp and 885 lb-ft commercial truck with a load capacity of 2.1 tons and double wheel. Its 97 kWh battery is enough to travel 380 km per charge. Its price is 1,480,000 pesos.
14. Tesla Model S
The model with which the Californian firm rose to fame has undergone different updates over the years. Its base configuration makes it the electric vehicle with the longest autonomy currently available in Mexico: 647 km per charge and the promise of reaching 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds. Its price starts at 1,823,900 pesos.
15. Mercedes-Benz EQC
The first native electric vehicle of the German firm was launched only this year on the market, with an interesting engine proposal and Mercedes’ own technological avant-garde. Its electric motors generate 408 hp and 560 lb-ft, enough to fly from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds and travel up to 414 km per charge. Its price is 1,899,000 pesos.
16. Audi e-tron
The e-Tron surname is shaping up to become a whole family of electric vehicles at Audi. The first of these is this 408 hp and 490 lb-ft SUV, with a range between 355 and 411 km thanks to a huge 95 kWh battery. A version with cameras instead of mirrors will be launched next year, making it the first vehicle to offer this system in Mexico. Its starting price is 1,919,900 pesos.
17. Tesla Model X
Contrary to all predictions, the large SUV segment has become one of the hotbeds for the development of electric vehicles. The Tesla Model X was one of the first to bet on this format, based on the Model S. Its most accessible configuration in Mexico promises 597 km of autonomy and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds, with a starting price of 2,099,900 pesos.
18. Jaguar I-Pace
In the same category as EQC, e-tron and Model X, Jaguar offers the I-Pace, an SUV that is 4.68 meters long, loaded with technology and that serves as the spearhead of the English firm’s electric vehicle strategy. It generates 400 hp and 513 lb-ft, it can travel up to 470 km and its price starts at 2,109,900 pesos.
19. Porsche Taycan
If you were wondering which is the most expensive electric car in Mexico, here you have it: an overwhelming sports car with which Porsche restores hope in the electric future to the most enthusiastic. The Taycan is available in two power levels, from 670 to 750 hp. In its fastest version, it reaches 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds. The base price is 3,348,000 pesos.
