IKEA, the Swedish furniture brand, started its operations in Mexico with the launch of its online store on October 12, with which Mexican consumers will now be able to purchase products. We tell you the details of this launch.

The company announced its arrival in Mexico last year; IKEA’s first physical store was planned to open this month; however, the delays in the construction sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic, postponed this plan.

The company’s online store has 18 categories, among which are products for bathroom, furniture, textiles, babies and children, decoration, home security, among others.

It was born in 1943 when Ingvar Kamprad began to sell items such as pens, wallets, among others via mail. Four years later the Swedish business evolved towards the sale of furniture that until 1953 was only managed via a catalog.

IKEA Mexico has shipping products only to the City and State of Mexico for 79 pesos, in packages of less than 24 kg and dimensions of 1.75 m in length, 70 cm in width, maximum height of 43.5 cm and maximum diameter of 40 cm per item, 3 to 5 calendar days from the order date.

The company launched a security protocol for its collaborators and clients, so for the furniture assembly process it will be necessary to measure temperature and fill out a questionnaire.

At its launch, the store offers a section of products for less than 50 pesos, including bags, candle holders, frames, pots, containers, rugs, curtains, and containers, among others.

Physical store

In May of last year, the company announced the opening of its first unit in the country, which will be located in the Oceania area of ​​Mexico City, where, it estimated, between 300 and 350 direct jobs will be created in the communities surrounding the city. location the same. 

Its physical store will cover 23 thousand square meters and will have the storage capacity for 7,500 products. In addition, at the top, they will have a Swedish food restaurant that can receive up to 665 people.

The Mexico City store will be supplied from a distribution center that will be in the north of the State of Mexico, which will also cover its sales by electronic commerce.
